We stock a wide range of sizes all available in standard lengths up to 6000mm or custom cut to your required dimension.
The RSJs are all produced to BS 4 part 1 BE EN 10025 S275JR which is the new European structural steel standard meaning it has a minimum yield strength (reh) of 235 MPa at16mm and a Longitudinal Charpy V-notch impacts of 27J at 20 degrees centigrade
Our RSJ Steel Beams are normally delivered pre-painted in Red Oxide. Red Oxide primer is an anti-corrosion coating to help prevent the formation of rust, ensuring long term durability. Should you require a beam untreated please contact us on 02380 572650 to specify your requirements and we will be able to help.
The steel beam sizes shown are the hight in mm (the web)x the width in mm (the flange) x the weight per metre in kilograms, the hight and width are measured as if looking at a capital I, The thickness of the web and and flange vary and are shown in individual product descriptions.
Rolled Steel Joists or I Beams as they sometimes called are rolled from a single piece of structural steel to maintain structural integrity. They are used to support walls and floors when making an opening in a load bearing wall or when building an extension. The web helps to resists shear forces, whilst the flanges resist the larger part of the bending moment placed on the mild steel RSJ. They are also used to make retaining walls in landscape gardening with wooden sleepers placed between them, and to construct the frames of modern office blocks and industrial warehouses. To comply with current building regulations, you will need to get a structural engineer to calculate the loading and supply you with a loading certificate and they necessary dimensions. Unfortunately, we are unable to advise on the size required for your project due to the large number of variables in construction design. After fitting beams should normally have 30 minutes fire resistance applied either by properly cladding in two or more layers of plasterboard or using Intumescent paint, your local Building control officer will be able to advise of the exact regulations.
As the majority of steel beams are heavy any individual beam over 60Kg in weight has to be delivered by haulier, and therefore all delivery times are estimates. We do not guarantee that any delivery will reach you on a certain date or at a certain time as we outsource all deliveries to third parties. We therefore recommend that you do not organise workmen until your goods have been delivered so that you can avoid any loss. You will need to make sure off-loading facilities are available on site as they will not be delivered on a vehicle with a Hiab. mild steel Beams less than 60Kg in weight will be delivered by courier and if over 30Kg the delivery driver will need help manually unloading your order. buy rsj today.
